The Important Role of Content

Without the creation of content, there would not be any social media marketing, which makes understanding content creation important. Before we get into more of the specifics of content creation, lets learn the definition of it. Content creation is the process of planning, creating, and posting digital material. This digital material can consist of text, image, video, audio, or infographics. It is important that you create this content specifically for certain social media platforms. Platforms like Instagram or Facebook, you cannot post a clickable link in your caption. This means each piece of content should be formed to fit each different platform.

Tips on Content Creation

HubSpot gives some good tips on how to create effective content.

These steps include: 1. Know your audience. 2. Plan and create a strategy for your content. 3. Have good practice behind creating your content. To understand your audience, you can define a target consumer persona and find your audience from there. If you are looking to promote your new hiking backpack, create a persona for young, trendy adults who love to hike or travel. This will help you brainstorm ideas when creating content that would target those you are hoping to check out your brand. When you plan and create a strategy on what you want your content to look like, all of it will be organized in detail. Details should include target audience (personas), what you are trying to promote or gain reach for, possible budgets, and social media platforms. Lastly, you should practice creating content whether that is the graphics (images, videos, audio) or the captions with the graphic. With practice, you can see what you are good at or what look you like on certain social media platforms. If these tips are used when learning how to create content for social media, you will succeed and stand out against competitors.

Techniques & Tools for the Best use of Optimization

There are many techniques out there when learning what is the best way to optimize your social media content. I am going to break some of the most important ones that you can take into your role of social media creation. For platform-specific optimization, you will want to focus on how you tailor your content for each specific social media platform. This includes what hashtags should be used, when content should posted, and size specifications on each platform. This leads to search engine optimization (SEO), where you need to use hashtags strategically. You will want to do keyword research based off the information you are wanting to post and pick the ones where people are going to click the most. The use of alt text and tags on your content will also help your page get discovered. The last technique I would recommend, is A/B testing and different variations of content. By testing different formats, visuals, or content styles you will gain knowledge in different variety of social media content. You can then decide which formats fit your brand best. By doing A/B testing, you can see the every metric in your platforms and posts. The metrics include likes, comments, shares, reach, engagement, and many more. You can see where you need to work on for each post or platform.

You can use tools like HubSpot to help you plan, publish, and monitor your social media posts or Google Analytics to check your metrics.

Measure Your Success

It is important to keep track of your metrics on each post of each social media platform. If you ignore your posts, there will be no room for improvement and you will not gain as much success in your social media marketing. Important key-performance indicators (KPIs) like reach, engagement rate, click-through-rate (CTR), and conversions indicate who is interacting with your brand or product. If you are trying to get more people to interact with your post or brand, you will want to increase your engagement rate. If you want customers to purchase from a post or platform, you will want to work on your conversion rate. Sprout Social Index is a tool that can help you keep track of the top metrics.
